Wir laden Sie herzlich zur Ausstellung von Nihad Nino Pušija „Andaro angluno vast / Aus erster Hand“ – Porträtserie international bekannter Sinti und Roma-Künstler*innen und Aktivist*innen ein!

Wenn es um das Sujet der Sinti und Roma geht, ist die Fotografie die historisch komplexeste und problematischste Bildgattung. Werden sich Sinti und Roma jemals von den traumatisierenden Praktiken der fotografischen Darstellung distanzieren können, durch die sie sexualisiert und kriminalisiert wurden – Praktiken, die sich durch die gesamte Geschichte der Anthropologie und Ethnografie ziehen? Und ist es endgültig unmöglich geworden, diesen fotografischen Blick umzukehren und zu erwidern?

Seit der Künstler und Fotograf Nihad Nino Pusija zum ersten Mal 1988 in Sarajevo ausstellte, stehen diese Fragen im Zentrum seiner Arbeit. Pusija beschäftigt sich mit den Vorurteilen gegenüber Sinti und Roma und mit ihren politischen Folgen wie Deportation und Assimilation. Stets findet er neue Möglichkeiten, authentische Bilder zu schaffen. Damit leistet er einen Beitrag zur fortlaufenden kritischen Untersuchung seitens der europäischen Kunstszene, welche Rolle die Bilder der sogenannten „Anderen“ für das Selbstbild der Porträtierten spielen.

Die Ausstellung ist eine Zusammenarbeit zwischen der Stiftung Kai Dikhas und dem Bildungsforum gegen Antiziganismus. Sie findet in zwei Teilen statt, im Kunstraum Dikhas Dur und im Bildungsforum, Prinzenstr. 84.2, 10969 Berlin

We warmly invite you to the exhibition of Nihad Nino Pušija’s ‚Andaro angluno vast / First Hand‘! Opening: May 16, 2024 – 7 PM Location: Kai Dikhas and Education Forum Against Antigypsyism

Photography is the most historically complex and problematic genre to ever appropriate the Roma and Sinti subject. Will Roma and Sinti ever be able to dissociate themselves from the traumatizing – sexualizing and criminalizing – practices of photographic representation used throughout the history of anthropology and ethnography? And has it become definitively impossible to turn and re-turn the photographic gaze?

Since his first exhibition in Sarajevo (1988), the questions sketched out above have been central to the work of the artist and photographer Nihad Nino Pusija. He continues to offer new ways to create and perceive authentic images while dealing with anti-Romani prejudices and their political consequences, such as deportation and assimilation. In doing so, he contributes to the contemporary European art scene’s on-going critical analysis of the role that pictures of so-called ‘others’ play in the self-image of those portrayed.
